Comics Column gets comic press!
November 14, 2008 9:12 am Mailbag, PE Street Team, PersonalWell, I rolled out of bed tired as all Hell and look what greeted me!
Savage Critic Abhay Khosla has apparently been reading my column over at THND, and posted a link to Column #4, the most recent installment, up at the Image Comics Forums - and Dirk Deppey felt it was Journalista!-worthy (note: find it down towards the bottom of the post)!
[[Edit: Whoops, apparently Abhay has been talking me up at Ivan Brandon's board earlier than that: "The first entry was a little stuffy, but this 3rd one's all about videogames, Ellis, superhero comics, fan relationships with superhero comics, videogame criticism, etc. It's all over the map, in the nicest of ways-- a nice piece of work. If you like reading that sort of thing. "]]
Khosla:
“I continue to enjoy / be impressed with the House Next Door’s comics column. This installment is all about the relationship of comics to cartography…? I don’t agree with all of it, but I really like how willing he is to try to wrap his arms around everything all at once, cramming opinions into every nook and cranny. I don’t quite understand the point of many of the digressions, but… I like digressions so…”
Deppey:
“A lengthy and absorbing essay on how juxtaposition and page design affect the reader’s perception of time.”
I’m flattered! Surely I’m all but “broken in” to comics now, right? Guys?

Well-played old bean . . . . looks like you really ARE at the big kids’ table now, eh? If you’ve got a glowstick over there, now’d be a great time to crack it.

Leigh: Thank you very much!
I was all set to make a self-deprecating ironic comment about how I’d caught the eye of an editor for a publisher whom I respect so much, only for my current project to be too far over the straight “genre fiction” line for what you usually release, regardless of its existential bent, but… I look at your new “TS2.0″ thing, which you made me hip to over at THND, and I see some more traditional genre work than I usually see coming from Top Shelf. Diversifying a bit on the web? Do I dare pitch an ongoing east-west fantasy story at you? Or do I exhaust my goodwill too early?
Thanks for the compliments - I hope the schizophrenic nature of this site doesn’t put you off in the future!
